Hamamatsu is the largest city in Shizouka prefecture. It is located on the island of Honshu, Japan midway between Tokyo and Kyoto. Hamamatsu has a population of over a half million people. Tourist Attractions in Hamamatsu Lake Hamana is a popular resort location where people boat, jet ski, sun bathe and collect shells. Lake Hamana is also famous for eel farming. Lake Hamana is home to Kanzanji Hot Springs, the Hamamatsu Zoo and Flower Park and Pal Pal amusement park.
Shijimizuka Ruins are the ruins of a primitive village from 3000 - 4000 years ago. The houses were reconstructed to help people learn about the life style of the primitive people. The park includes the Hamamatsu History Museum that displays excavations from the ruins.
Mitsuke School was the first elementary school built in the area. Ito Heiemon designed the school and construction began in 1874. The Mitsuke School historical site includes artifacts that the students used when attending school.
Hamamatsu is also known for its kite festival, the Hamamatsu Festival, and Act City. Act City is located at the Hamamatsu Station and it includes a 45 story complex with a hotel and exhibition and event hall. In addition, Hamamatsu has many beautiful shrines and temples.
