    Posted: 22 - August - 2009 at 18:23

On Madras Day on Saturday, August 22, at 6pm at the Malayalee Club auditorium in Chetpet, the Club decided to honour the malayalees who had contributed to the city's growth.

The Malayalee clubs president M Nanda Govind and his team in a very short span arranged this funtion, which I should say went very well.

The best part I liked was that the function started off with "Tamil thai vaazhthu song"
KJ's sarcastic comment about malayalees not having anything like a tamil thai vaazthu must have hurt many. It hurt me... he could have put it in a more nicer way...
Also he wanted all the eminent personalities who were on the stage to help reduce the prices of medicines for cancer. (he said 6K worht of medicines were sold at 90K in kochi)

Sheela Chechi had a very sentimental talk, she spoke about how it hurt when she helplessly watched the Gemini studio and Elphinstone Theatre  studios were pulled down.
Sheela Chechi was also the first to have spoken in Malayalam among the guests.

Each guest was given three minutes to talk and the best I liked was Vinu Mammen's.  Also spoke about one of the practical jokes his grandfather played at a party in Taj Connemera in good old days in Chennai, on easy cool Mammen Mathayee was, even on his busy days.

Among the people the Malayalee club honoured were
Politics
MG Ramachandran, represented by his nephew MGC Prabhakaran

Another important guest I forgot to mention (of the ones I liked the best) was Navodhay Paappachan.
His simplicity was the best when he said that his success is his team's success
Without his team he would have never grown so much

Hats of Paappachaaaa
