Dr. Abdul Kalam had been the one of the most straight forward and down to earth president of our country.

Continental airlines has seriously insulted one of the country's favourite presidents of India.

I condemn this action by Continental Airlines and will never ever fly with them or recommend them no mattter even if they gave a free boarding.

The entire staff who insulted India as a country, by insulting its favourite Ex-President and  the top scientist of the country must be grounded and sent home permanently.

Kalam was frisked by the ground staff of Continental Airlines at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) when he was on the aerobridge while boarding the non-stop flight to Newark, New Jersey.

"He did not complain when he was frisked and took in his stride. Everyone was being checked and so was he," said Kalam's personal secretary H.Sheridan

Kalam frisking: FIR filed against Continental Airlines staff
NEW DELHI: Police on Tuesday registered a case against the "concerned staff" of Continental Airlines for frisking former President A P J Abdul Kalam at the IGI airport here in breach of protocol.

The case was registered after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) approached the police against the staff of the American airliner for carrying out pre-embarkation body check of Kalam, which is in gross violation of a BCAS circular which exempts specified VVIPs/VIPs from security checks.

"The BCAS has registered an FIR with the SHO, IGI airport police station, against all the concerned staff of the Continental Airlines under Section 11A of Aircraft Act, 1934 for willful violation of the directions issued by BCAS," an official statement said.

The civil aviation ministry earlier in the day directed the BCAS to conduct an inquiry into reports about Kalam being frisked by the airline staff on April 21 before he was to board a Newark-bound flight.

"As per the FIR, on April 21, Kalam was traveling by Continental Airlines Flight No.CO-083 from IGI Airport to New York. As he proceeded towards the aircraft, the staff of the Continental Airlines carried out frisking of Kalam in contravention of the BCAS rule even as CISF personnel pointed out that he was exempt from such checks," it said.

Earlier reports had said that Kalam was frisked at the airport on April 24.

An inquiry was ordered into the matter which established that the staff had wrongfully, under the direction of their security-in-charge, country director and station manager, carried out pre-embarkation body check of Kalam.

A show-cause notice was issued on July 9 to the station manager of Continental Airline asking why action should not be taken against them under Section 11A of Aircraft Act, 1934, and were given seven days to respond.

According to the statement, "no reply has been received till date. The BCAS has thus registered an FIR with the SHO, IGI airport police station, against all the concerned staff of the Continental Airlines under section 11A of Aircraft Act, 1934 for willful violation of the directions issued by BCAS."

Continental Airlines apologises to Kalam on frisking issue

PTI Wednesday, July 22, 2009 11:52 IST

New Delhi: America's Continental Airlines, which had yesterday said there could be no exception to security frisking of its passengers, today apologised to former president APJ Abdul Kalam following a political uproar in the country.

"We have tendered a formal apology to Dr Kalam and we sincerely hope he will fly with us again," the airline said in a statement.

The statement comes in the backdrop of the uproar in Parliament yesterday over the frisking of the 77-year-old former president before he was to board a Newark-bound flight of the airline on April 21. The government had later registered an FIR against the "concerned staff" of the airline.

"Continental Airlines apologises to Dr Kalam for any misunderstanding and/or inconvenience related to the security screening on April 21," the statement said.

"Our intention was never to offend Dr Kalam or the sentiments of the people of India. Continental Airlines takes great pride and is honoured to have flown a respectable leader such as Kalam," it said.

The incident was condemned in Parliament where civil aviation minister Praful Patel had described the act of frisking Kalam, who is exempted from security checks, as "unpardonable" and assured "corrective action".

The Civil Aviation ministry has ordered a probe into the incident involving the ground security staff of the airline which subjected Kalam to the security check.

The airline had implied yesterday that Kalam was not exempt from frisking before boarding the aircraft.

In today's statement, the airline said, it reiterates its commitment to comply with regulations mandated by local authorities Bureau of Civil Aviation Security(BCAS) as well as US authorities.

"While ensuring compliance with TSA (of the US) and BCAS requirements imposed on us, we sometimes encounter circumstances wherein TSA and BCAS regulations are not compatible."

"We hope the respective government authorities resolve these difference at the earliest in order to avoid any recurrence of this situation in the future," the statement said.

The airline said it is also formally addressing the queries raised in the show cause notice issued by BCAS.

All these discussions have made continental airlines look like a by-the-rule-book airline and has only got them more attention. They ve done their bid to garner people's attention during these times when airline traffic is going low. Now they can say that we even frisked the x pres of india and such is our concern for the passenger's safety. And, by discussing this we r makin them more famous.

Now, the question whether they wud ve done it with their x pres/ i really don't think so they wud frisk a clinton or bush. So, it looks like a marketing gimmick. But the way they ve done it is very rude. They shud really apologize for it and the indian govt shud ve taken some action against the airlines. Ah, the indian govt.! Theyr not even bold enough to take stern action against the terrorist Kasab (Taj hotel shooting) when he has openly asked to hang him. such a shame!! I dont know what more proofs the govt. is waitin for? A re-enactment? disgusting!!

About how agni makes money or Tp/ Ad Guy. Ppl ve their own way of choosing how they want to live. No ones way is better than others if they feel happy about it. The kiss-ass factor which agni mentioned is prevalent everywhere. I remember agni going all the way to kodai to satisfy a customer. isn't that some sort of kiss-assing? Servicing the customer.. to get more business? Isn't it out of fear that u may lose ur biz? and hence had to "satisfy" the customer. I feel that extreme ways to satisfy customer is also kiss-assing.

About "driving traffic to make peanuts".. Asokaa , u ll know how tough it is survive in a world of uncertainty only when u dive into it. agni has done it. u sit ther in ur office knowing that work will come to u. For him, he has to make work come to him. So, it's not a cheap trick. Even microsoft does it.

Ah!! About me. i feeel like a divine saint aftr replyin to this mail. :) hehe..

first lets get one thing clear.
its not out of your love for kalam or for the ex-pres or the respect you have for the leaders tat you have written abt him
it was just a f**king dirty trick to drive traffic to your page. so that you can earn peanuts out of it (we call them scavengers who feast on dead meat)

and on the 2nd point you have mentioned, crossing 3 hurdles - can you please explain wat those 3 hurdles are????which we are not aware?
he brought internet and comm, its gud, heartfelt thanks to him.(wondering wat his role was in bringing these?)

3rd point: there wud have been reason for frisking, i appreciate their sincerity. btw there is no strip tease happening in airports(get the facts right)

4th point : so wat?

shame on you dude, using these to drive traffic.
try something better herafter.

all the best

One : An outsider company stripping our Ex-president sounds a joke to you, Not to me. Among that he is the most respected after JRD Tata for sure
Two : When you cannot cross three stage hurdles for your promotions this is a man who helped you and me take internet and communications for granted
Three : I am sure if it was your father who was an expresident and was make to strip for whole body scan and in the name of security check, am sure you would have now thrown shit on conti's office
Four : The ind\cident did not happen at the security area but on the ramp which connect to the flight, and that too was made ot wait for long time despite request and plea from his personel security and others

Shame on both of you...

Dear Agni,

I strongly believe that this is not a big issue to discuss because Kalam is an x president (at present a normal person like us).

He is most respected person in our country no doubt on that but it doesn't mean that he should be excluded from the security system.

Thanks & Regards

This is my last email on this Issue

I also promise to my great lord that I never will fly Continental, not even my dead boady must be carried in it for this incident.
Insulting the most respected person of my country has hurt many indians sentiments and continental airlines must be ashamed of not apologising in person to Dr.Kalam

Kalam yet to receive apology from Continental Airlines

NDTV Report on 23rd July 2009

Former President A P J Abdul Kalam is "yet" to receive the apology from America's Continental Airlines for breaching the protocol norms by frisking him at Delhi's international airport.

"I have not yet received it," said Kalam when asked about the apology sent by the airline.
On Wednesday, Continental Airlines had apologised to Kalam following a political uproar in the country over the frisking of the former president at Delhi's international airport before he was to board a flight on April 21.

Asked whether he had felt insulted when he was subjected to the security check, Kalam, who is in Kochi, declined to comment, saying the issue has been discussed in Parliament.

When contacted, the airline on Thursday said it had sent the apology letter to Kalam's Delhi office as directed by his official staff and since the former president was travelling, his staff may not have been able to communicate to him about the letter.

"We are waiting for him to return to Delhi so that we can apologise to the former president in person," a spokesperson of the airline said.
