Me too a Casual blogger...

I am not a very serious blogger like the one you will expect to see at the "unconference"

I run a Cab Rental company in Chennai and had nothing to do with blogging until I kick started this topic within my friends "Are the Malayalees in Kerala generally rude?"
When I saw more email replies coming in I started it as a sub-site of my personal website www.agnisharman.com/malayalam.

Manju Nair, a class mate of mine from my B.Sc CompSci of ASAN Memorial College of Arts and Science, encouraged me to start is as a separate site... thanks to her www.simplymalayalaees.com was born. And thanks to Google Adsense for supporting me to maintan this site.

Today my blog talks anything and every thing about Malayalam, Malayaless and Keralam.
And has more than 170 registered members and about 600 people visiting it each day.

I am all excited to meet the other bunch of people who are more techie and uptodate than me. Hope to learn more from them and share my experience as well.

See you there guys....!

Pradeep Somasundaram : A singer and a nerd

BlogCampKerala_Pradeep_Somasundaram
Tech-savvy: Noted singer Pradeep Somasundaram during the State’s first-ever blog camp held on board a houseboat in Alappuzha on Saturday. The one-day camp, organised by a group of young bloggers, had 120 bloggers from across the country and a few from abroad, discussing the future of blogging.

Let me be the first to disagree on the half yearly plan!

I cannot disagree with mani karthik... I have been a Ekalavyan. practical application of SEO tricks in my sites kick started from Mani's website.

BlogCampKerala must continue as a yearly event to keep up its charm and demand... that's my personal opinion.
But the NRI part of story as mentioned by Kenny might need a September gathering.
Another idea is why not shift the annual event somewhere close to ONAM when most of us are in Kerala ?

I came to BlogCampKerala 2008 thinking its just a get-together. But had been a beautiful way to learn and share.

Kick starting a new set of active Bloggers every year
I would love if at least half the day be dedicated to beginners like me to give in more inputs on tech and non-tech advices.

I did never knew that adsense really worked until May 27, 2008 when my first payment of 130$ was released.
Rest of the money that came in after that help me start my other two sites www.simplymalayalees.com and www.fly2kerala.om

Now these sites are self sustaining ones, they make their own money to keep them alive.
I sincerely request all those seniors at BlogCampKerala to spread more awareness on facilities like adsense to keep the Bloggers from spending a lot of money on having their own website for blogging.

Making a living from blogging
People like mani karthik and nirmal will be a lot more helpful to those wanting to take the blogging full time and for the living.
More sessions online and offline is needed and a the summary and learning may be shared at BlogCampKerala for others to make use and seek advice further from these experts.

Lateral Ideas for professionals
Audio blogging, video blogging, movie blogging, cartoon blogging will be useful for those in those professions and we must work on some ideas to bring in more people from these fields and let people like Sajjive, pradeep and uncle help these new Bloggers!

These ideas might have popped up in many minds in our crowd, but making it reality is what I would love to work on.
I have roped in two people to help them start a site of their own and start blogging...
May be a promise to add at least 10 new Bloggers each year per BlogCampKerala 2008 participant and bring them to the annual get-together will benefit a lot with more variety of people from all over the world.

Sponsors will automatically follow when they see a huge crowd of varied interest.

What says you?

Thanks for your time....

I agree with Karthik. BlogCamp Kerala should be a regular (half-yearly) affair. It shouldn't be the burden of Anand an Kenny alone. All of us should participate for organising. I suggest Kenny, Anand, and you, Karthik , can take the lead. You already have a few BlogCamp feathers on your cap. We all will contribute to crown you the next (early 2009).
Thanks
Prasannakumar

Yikes...Late to the thread (was traveling)..

One big big congrats to Kenney and Anand for arranging and unconferencing the whole event. Even the boat was late, I (we all) knew it was not fair to question it, cos the whole event was itself an initiative worth a pat on the back (to all of us).

I think there are a few things we can take home from the event.

- That the crowd in Kerala is far more diverse and rich in quality than any other blogcamps in India, No doubt.
- That we have a great co ordination and understanding even if we are from diagonally opposite spheres.
- That we need more of Blogcampkeralas.

This is an initiative that we need to take forward and not rest it with one or two people. A community effort if possible?

I'd love to see disagreements :D

Reply from Mani Karthik of www.dailyseoblog.com

Agni, I agree.

Here are my thoughts.

BCK as a major event like the one just ended, should probably happen after a time period when everyone can do some homework and get back, ONLY because I find that in kerala, the crowd has more participation from all diverse walks of life, with a great diversity. I have not seen any blogcamps with this diverse a crowd. Mostly almost all the participants (though from various places) are from very narrow domain.

Taking that into consideration, I think a longer period than usual (which is 3-4 months even) may suit us mallus.

Having said that, there are also a bunch of very enthusiastic passionate crowd among us who are available anytime. For those interested in it, we can very well have casual get togethers once a while. In fact, in cochin, we have a bunch of guys including me who have started an initiative to meet every other month or so just to horn our skills and brain storm. Keep in mind that this is a casual unconference and no sponsorship whatsoever is not reqd. (Anyone can join us @ Cochin meanwhile..)

So I think even though blog camps are more casual, and does not have any time frame to stick to, we at kerala can safely fall into a particular frequency, and I will agree that sponsorship will come in naturally, as the movement gets some traction. It should not be the other way around where we plan things based on whether a sponsor is available or not. It does not work like that.

So, 6 months or 1 year, is for the crowd to decide. Sponsors...we'll handle when the movement is "happening".
