First time in history of World Malayalee Council (WMC) some one from Gulf has become head of it. This time Soman Baby, who is an associate editor of Bahrain’s Gulf Daily News has been elected as head of the body at WMC’s sixth annual conference held in Singapore in August 2008. Election from gulf region to the post will help thousands of Malayalee workers living in gulf to show their grievances effectively.

The council meeting was attended by many known and popular persons of Malayalee origin, including film actors. Singapore President S.R. Nathan was the chief guest at the event. The Works and Housing Minister in Kerala government Binoy Viswam too was there. Malayalee films superstar Mammootty's presence was enlightening. WMC is a body working for uniting Malayalee Diaspora across the world.

"A Cry For Justice and Safety" by The South Asian Malayalee Community of the Greater Toronto Area

at the petition site (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/quota-cry-for-justice-and-safetyquot39)

To the Right Honourable Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario:

The South Asian Malayalee Community of the Greater Toronto Area, respectfully submit this petition to the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, and the Right Honourable Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario, and demand immediate action to protect Canadian citizens from known, violent sex offenders who are being released into the community without appropriate supervision or any warning to the communities in which such criminals are being released:

In the early morning of Monday, October 13, 2008, Thanksgiving Day, two innocent women from our community, Ms. Suja John and her mother, Mrs. Sara Varghese were brutally stabbed to death by a murderer who broke into their alarm-protected home, seemingly for the sole purpose of sexually assaulting and killing the residents of the home. A third woman, Suja's 20 year old daughter, a university student, also suffered stabbing injuries but managed to escape the home and call police. The police arrived too late to save the lives of Suja and Sara.

The alleged perpetrator charged with this gruesome and heinous crime is a known sex offender, who was released on bail into the quiet family neighborhood and is believed to have been staying with his parents, the neighbors of these innocent victims.

Suja was a single mother and a breast cancer survivor, who worked seven days a week to support her mother and educate her daughter, when this cruel act of violence was thrust upon her and her most-loved ones.

We, the South Asian Malayalee community, are protesting against this grave injustice and ask why these hard working, honourable women were not protected by our justice system?

- How can the alleged murderer, a convicted criminal with a history of sexual violence, be permitted to stay in a residential community without appropriate supervision or adequate measures to protect the community?

- Why was no warning about the presence of such an individual with a history of random violence provided to the neighbourhood?

- Why was such a sick, perverted and known offender released on bail and allowed to roam freely in the community, perpetrate violence and shatter the lives of innocent, hardworking people?

- Why are criminals rights being safeguarded to such an extent that the lives of innocent people are being lost?

- Where is the justice when the criminal system fails its citizens so horribly and a young woman is left alone to fend for herself?

On behalf of the late Ms. Suja John and her mother, the late Mrs Sara Varghese, the South Asian Malayalee community of Ontario, demands proper justice for the people of Canada. We are particularly concerned about the physical safety as well as the financial security of the sole survivor of this attack, the daughter of the late Ms. Suja John, and demand that she be adequately compensated and her needs taken care of.

Apart from this, we also demand an investigation into the administration of justice that led to the alleged perpetrator of this crime being released on bail.
