I am sure many people saw yesterday's Idea Star singer - if for nothing to see how the controversy is developing.

I am not too happy at the way Sanni got plastered - I liked his song.

Actually I liked Amrutha also - the Rehman chap is not exactly my favourite but he is a nice chap.

They also declared who are the top three - at least the first stage !!!

I was very happy with the Idea Star Singer yesterday.

I am happy that some of these singers will be recommended to music directors like Illayaraja and others through the judges - and I hope as MG said they do not panic and sing wrongly. I guess this gruelling session on Idea Star Singer has given them the character.

Overall they are more confident and things are on a good track !!!

If only my friend Sanni would come up with a wonder song -

I liked MG's wit yesterday -  I thought his comments were very funny .

As for the Stars - the stage is interesting. Looks like everyone is in the 80 and above category - the challenge is who can muster the crowds to vote in their favour.

This is going to be an interesting situation - I wonder who will have to say good bye.

I hope henceforth it will be one a round -- anything more will be heart rending !!

Sanni turned in a sterling performance - at least to me - sadly the scoring did not match mine and his hope.

I guess for people like me there are two options - one is get bitter and angry and start cooking up all kinds of stories about the judges , their families , the Asianet , the band , the weather and put out the bile and vitirol in some eloquent written piece with a disclaimer that I heard it or read it from someone or somewhere and carry on as though it is the truth.

BUt I will take the other - the high road - I think my star ( I have another star - Durga ) is not meeting the judges standards - better send in some serious sms if he is to win. Call my friends and start the SMS factory - to support my star. That is what I will do.

I think the judges were right in where they were coming from. They know the art and science of music - but from an appreciating audience standpoint - I will loudly say - I like Sanni !!!!!

I guess we must spend today thinking about what is going to happen at ISS tomorrow.

I guess it is good that we have the weekends to relax and prepare our eyes , hearts and ears for NEXT WEEK !!!!

Interesting stuff - some of the chaps are really scoring very high -

I guess the favourites at least from the scoring standpoint are flying .

The question is will the charm to win the hearts of the viewers be won by the scoring differential.

my hope is Sanni and Durga get through - hopefully at some point they will catch second wind and put some sterling and unforgettable performances - but whatever it is I am very happy !!!

The worry is what to do when this show does finish !!!

I agree with the comment by Nair Mohanan C and Vociferously disagree with MG and Sarath's idea of asking Viewers not to vote.

Dear viewers of idea star singer

This letter is to convey our anguish against the two judges of Idea star singer -M.G.Srikumar and Sarath who forced Sanny to appeal to public not to vote for him.If the judges don't understand why Sanny is the most popular singer in the contest, the reason has to be found out from sociologists and psychologists.Asianet should not be used as a platform by the two Judges to display their feudal mentality to insult a poor singer.

Agreed that Sanny doesn't have required training in classical music like other participants. He represents "Malayalism"in purest form. This quality of Sanny has attracted Keralites-especially non-resident Keralites to him.So called projected best singer-Najim's Hindi songs are far below the talent of "Little Champions"-another reality show in Hindi.Does it mean that Najim has no musical talent?

A singer is a human-being with limits. One should not insult at the limits. The Judge should understand a participant's strengths and it should be encouraged. A person who can insult others like M.G and Sarath can't be good human-beings. A bad human-being can't be a good Judge and singer.

In Malayalam devotional songs,Sanny has proved that he is better than M.G.Srikumar to connect a devotee with God. Because there is so much heart in his devotional songs.A song is not something to be judged; it is something to be felt.

Kerala society has always acknowledged talented persons like Mohan Lal and Mammooty whereas persons like Kalabhavan Mani too were recognized. The seeds of socialism and communism were sown and harvested in malayali-mind not in any other Indian mind.

Now, the flow of SMS .SMS is the commercial aspect of this reality programme. If Sanny gets more SMS,it is due to his high commercial utility. One should know that without commercial utility ,talent alone can't push a man to top in 21st century. In this area too,Sanny is a hit.

Please tell M.G.Srikumar and co. not to teach viewers. Let them do their duty and we will do our job.

Faithfully yours,

Nair Mohanan C and family and Viswambaran K.and family.

Comment:

Dear Mr. Nair Mohanan and Mr. Viswambaran:

Sub.: SMS vis-a-vis-Sanny

I have gone through your letter. I endorse your stand that SMS is business-driven. But I totally disagree with you that a singer should be rewarded simply because of popular votes through SMS. I am a Tamil. I watch Asianet Super Singer programme; simply because, it is the best in South. Please remember that every Channel in South conduct such programmes in all languages; including Tamil. But, we watch ISR programme in view of its exceptional quality; as well as the correct and unbiased judgement of the Panel of Judges: mainly: Mr.Srikumar and Mr. Sarath. Their own knowledge of music is unquestioned. Please remember: we are not trying to identify who is the most popular person in Kerala; but who is the most talented singer. In my opinion, Mr.Sanny is a big hype: Mr. Sanny should not have crossed Third Elimination Round; if you consider talent alone. There are any number of singers better than him in Kerala. I like Sanny myself; because, though he is from rural background, he could create an impact. But, you just can not give away the top award to Sanny for this trivial reason. His Sruti is absolutely bad; very bad! Do you want such a person to be the Singing Star of Kerala. The people from other states will then question the sanity of Asianet Programmes, the capability of the Judges; as well as the general public who participated through SMS. In my view, the earlier Sanny goes, better it is for the programme. In this connection, I feel, the whole idea of SMS itself should be jettisoned for such important contests. Surely, Sarath and Srikumar know better and have better knowledge of music.

By the way, my son, who is working in Los Angeles, also keeps track of ISR. The only question he asks is: when is Sanny going to be eliminated? Because, he too feels, Sanny is a hype. There can be no second opinion that Nazeem Show is performance par excellence.

Yours sincerely,

Dr.K.Natarajan

I agree, the sms driven selection should be dropped, although I dont fully agree with MGS or Sarath's comments, rather sometimes unwarranted comments on the participating artistes.... some singers maynot be fully trained and therefore may not be upto the "mark" but instead of encouraging, some of the remarks are not in good taste, to say the least.

I agree...

I find Kairali TV's Gandharva Sangeetham to be much better in terms of the comments and involvement of the Judges.

And ofcourse this is a Juniors program and kids are enjoying it too

I wonder who will win @ the Grand Finale in Dubai.
