Vandanmedu is the largest producer of cardamom in the world and is also one of its biggest auction centers. Located in Idukki district at an altitude of around 4000 ft on the Western Ghats, Vandanmedu is 25 km from Thekkady. Idukki is a heavily forested district, with around half its area under forests.
