Yesudas Invited and Insulted with denial of entry into to the temple

Thiruvananthapuram, (PTI): Sparking a new temple-centric row, top-notch singer K J Yesudas has alleged that he was "insulted" by authorities of the famous Kadampuzha Devi temple in Kerala by refusing him entry on religious grounds after being invited.

"I am deeply pained at the experience I had at the temple. Even cats and rats can go near the God. Why Yesudas is barred?," an emotionally charged Yesudas said during an interaction with students and alumni at the Swathi Thirunal Music College here on Saturday evening.

Yesudas, who was born Christian, has rendered hundreds of Hindu devotional songs. The singer said he did not face any such discrimination at the famed Mookambika temple at Kollur in Karnataka or the hillshrine of Sabarimala.

The Executive Officer of the Kadampuzha temple in Malappuram district, C Naryanankutty, however, refuted the singer's claim that they had extended an invitation to him to visit the temple where "non-Hindus" are not allowed.

He told PTI that Yesudas had come to the shrine on his own without being formally invited.

"The singer was on a visit to a nearby temple two days back. He informed us about his wish to visit Kadampuzha through another person. Then itself we had clearly told that the temple custom would not allow him to worship inside," Narayanankutty said.

"We were keen to avoid an embarrassment for Yesudas and that was why we told him in advance of the regulation," he said.
